Setting Up Stripe

This article is designed to help you configure Stripe as the payment provider for your ServiceReef account.

How to Get Stripe's Nonprofit Rate:

Step 1: Register and activate your Stripe account

  1. Register for a Stripe account
  2. Activate your Stripe account

Step 2: Apply for nonprofit pricing

To do this, email nonprofit@stripe.com with all the following information:

  • Confirmation of your nonprofit status. See ‘How to prove your nonprofit status’ in this article.
  • Your Stripe account ID
  • The primary email address associated with your Stripe account
  • Your primary operating country
  • Confirmation that greater than 80% of your payment volume will be tax deductible donations
    • Some examples of non-eligible donations include membership fees, tuition payments, ticket sales, registration fees, and auction payments.

For security reasons, ensure the email is sent by the Stripe account owner. You may want to CC your Fundraise Up contact if you’d like us to stay informed of your progress. We’ve provided an email template at the end of this article.

Please allow up to 5-10 business days for the discounted processing fees to be applied to your account.

Currency that is Supported for Donations being made:

The supported types at this point in the drop down are:
  • USD (default selection)
  • CAD
  • AUD
 
If an organization selects the supported currency, then when transactions are recorded in ServiceReef, the API to Stripe should include the organization's selection in the request to Stripe for the currency value.
  • Example of the Request we send Stripe is attached with "currency": "usd" line that would need to change to currency: cad based on the selection of the organization.


Setting Up the Integration on ServiceReef


Click Payment Providers in Org Settings > Integrations > Payment Providers



Check "Enable Payments via Stripe and then select the blue button, "Connect with Stripe". Begin the process to connect your Stripe account.  Creating your Stripe account should take 5 minutes or less if you have your account information.  Connecting your Stripe and ServiceReef account should take less than a minute.   


Once you have connected your account to Stripe, we recommend testing a donation. In order to do this, go to your Stripe Dashboard and select "Test Mode". Stripe offers other methods of testing as well, to learn more check out - Test payment methods | Stripe Documentation.  Your donations can be found under Financial, Donations & Payments.
