Displayed Trip Cost vs Total Trip Cost Explained

At an Opportunity level, you have the ability to display a Total Cost for your trip or you can display text with a cost + an explanation. Let's unpack this and determine why you may choose one over the other!

Below, you will see where these changes can be made. In the Opportunity, you will go to the Financial, and select Financial Details. Notice that there are two places boxed in that discuss Cost.

1. Total Cost-This is a way to display a total trip cost without additional text besides an amount. This will display at the top of the Opportunity page when an individual looks at the Opportunity (see image below of Italy with Cost $1,525). You set the Total Cost and select "no" on the next question (Display a different cost at top of Opportunity Page).

Why would I choose this option? If you know the total cost of the trip and this will not change this is a great option for you!

Example of Total Cost being shown.

2. Displayed Cost- This is a way to display a trip cost with additional text. This will display at the top of the Opportunity page when an individual looks at the Opportunity (see image below of Italy with Cost $650 plus Airfare Cost). You set the Total Cost (use an estimate here of the Total Cost) and select "yes" on the next question (Display a different cost at top of Opportunity Page).

Selecting "Yes" replace the first cost applicants see. Please note: All financial information (goals, amount to raise, etc.) are based on the Total Cost (see image below showing financial information). This is only to provide context and/or estimate costs for this specific trip in text form.

Why would I choose this option? If you are unsure the total cost of the trip - mainly due to the cost of airfare this is a great option for you! It provides your participants an amount that the trip will cost (Ex. $650 is a guaranteed amount for the trip, but the cost of airfare will fluctuate...we estimate it to be $875 for a total trip cost of $1,525), plus it gives them an estimated amount of the cost of airfare (or whatever additional costs you include).
